Project 3: Dyson

Abstract

In 2019, I was a key contributor to the development of the Dyson Blowdryer Texture focused Attachments and Corale. I was a crucial advisor in the London-based research project to evolve the dryer attachment tools, create a comb, and produce the first Corale flatiron. In addition to working on the performance of the mechanical tools, I wrote the first texture curriculum for the Dyson enterprise, worldwide. Leading the implementation of the curriculum, and facilitated trainings as the lead texture expert in the organization.

MY OBJECTIVE

My objective as the only trusted texture expert with cultural context and editorial experience, I lead stylist Educator advocacy to develop texture equity.

The Challenge

The challenge I faced was blending cultural context with the strictly scientific nature for which Dyson is known for and operates. My mission was to marry both and develop the organization's understanding of texture beyond β€œthe lab.”

The Solutions

I overcame this challenge by diligently explaining and demonstrating how to use the machines, blending with professional techniques and cultural lived experience to develop more relevant and real proof points.

The Results

As a result, Dyson has trained texture salon stylists and educators for the first time in the organization's history. My training program and educational curriculum have opened new doors, touched new consumers, and now Dyson actively participates in the consumer service industry.
